Bringing a dog into your life is an exciting and rewarding experience, but it also comes with its fair share of challenges, especially when it comes to training. Maybe your new puppy has boundless energy and no impulse control, or your adolescent dog has developed some frustrating new habits like counter-surfing, door-darting, or pulling on the leash with the strength of an entire Olympic sled team. Whatever the case, establishing good habits early on is key to creating a well-mannered, happy companion and building a lifelong, harmonious relationship with your pup! Transforming Behavior in Just 14 Days

Our 14-Day Board & Train program is a structured two-week training program designed to be an immersive experience that helps dogs refine their skills, develop better habits, and gain confidence, all while having fun in a supportive, engaging environment. 

This program focuses on what we refer to as “nuisance behaviors"—those “not quite serious (yet!), but still a pain-in-the-tail” behaviors that we want to stop in their tracks before they become bigger problems. The 14-Day Board & Train Program at JM Pet Resort & Veterinary Clinic is an excellent option for busy pet parents who want to jump-start their dog’s training and reinforce positive behaviors before small issues become more serious challenges.

Our training methods are rooted in motivational obedience training—positive reinforcement that encourages dogs to make good choices, redirects unwanted behaviors, and builds the kind of trust that lasts long after a program ends. Training should be enjoyable for both you and your dog, which is why we make learning an engaging, confidence-boosting, and trust-building experience. By fostering a positive learning environment, we help dogs develop essential skills and a mindset that sets them (and you!) up for 360º of Happy Health®! 

Before your dog’s stay begins, we start with a consultation with one of our dog trainers. This helps us determine whether the 14-Day Board & Train program is the right fit for your pup (or identify what other type of training they may benefit from). Think of the consultation as a mini private lesson at the Resort, so we can get to know your pup, discuss your goals, and identify areas where they need support. Our first priority is always to set you and your pup up for success in a way that meets you both exactly where you are in your training journey.

Once they’ve arrived, your dog will participate in two personalized training sessions per day with our experienced trainers. These customized training sessions will focus on the essential skills identified during the consultation, such as loose-leash walking, recall, polite greetings, impulse control, etc., to meet your dog wherever they are. These lessons are reinforced throughout the day, ensuring that training becomes second nature.  

In addition to these structured lessons, we incorporate:  

  • Enrichment activities that stimulate your dog’s mind and keep them engaged
  • Socialization opportunities in our flagship PLAYtrain® Doggie Daycare help dogs learn appropriate play behaviors and build confidence in a supervised setting. 
  • Exposure to new environments within our Resort to ensure your pup is comfortable and well-mannered in a variety of situations. 
  • Relaxation and impulse-control exercises help your dog settle and stay calm, even in exciting or distracting moments.

We believe in a balanced approach; one that provides structure while also allowing time for play, decompression, and positive social interactions. Every part of your dog’s day is thoughtfully designed to support their training success.

  • Real-Life Practice: Training isn’t just about learning commands in a controlled setting. We are here to support a lifelong, harmonious relationship between people and their pets. While our 14-Day Board & Train takes place exclusively at our Resort, we integrate real-world scenarios so your dog can master skills in everyday environments, such as our Veterinary Clinic, parking lot, and Grooming room.

  • Owner Guidance for Lasting Results: We equip you with the knowledge and tools to maintain and reinforce training at home. Every Board & Train program ends with a 60-minute private go-home training session at the Resort, open to everyone in your household who has a hand in your dog’s training, whether that’s you, your spouse, your children, or anyone else involved in their day-to-day care.  You’ll leave with take-home resources, including a $50 coupon for group classes to continue educating.

Every dog is different, and training should be designed to meet their individual needs. Our 14-Day Board & Train program is ideal for dogs who need structured guidance, whether their training journey is just beginning or they need additional support refining their manners. 

This program might be the perfect fit if:  

  • You have a puppy or a newly adopted dog who needs help with basic manners and would benefit from the structure and regular training our 14-Day Board & Train programs provide.

  • You’re a busy, but dedicated pet parent who needs a more convenient, effective way to jumpstart training. Let us provide some consistency to get your pup started on the right paw! Training doesn’t have to rest solely on your shoulders.

  • Your dog struggles with impulse control: Darting out the door when you step out to get the mail, excessive barking or whining for attention, jumping on (and nearly knocking over) guests, and pulling on the leash so hard that walks become something you avoid altogether, and more.  

  • You’re dealing with nuisance behaviors like counter-surfing, stealing items (like grabbing socks or shoes because they think everything is a toy!), demand barking or whining, inappropriate digging, ignoring boundaries, or maybe even something we haven’t mentioned here.

  • You’d like to work on crate training your puppy so they have a safe space that they feel comfortable in, but they just can’t seem to get the hang of settling down in their enclosure. Or,  they’re struggling to get the hang of potty training. The structure at our facilities, with potty rotations and dedicated rest time, means these become default behaviors rather than battles you have to fight.

They don’t need the full-scale behavioral focus of our 30-Day Board and Train, but they may benefit from some additional structure and refinement in their skills.

Setting the Stage for Long-Term Success

The work doesn’t stop when your dog returns home—training is a lifelong journey. That’s why we provide a comprehensive 60-minute send-home lesson at the end of the program, equipping you and anyone else who will be involved in training at home with the knowledge and techniques needed to maintain your dog’s progress. 

You’ll have the opportunity to work one-on-one with our trainer here at the Resort to reinforce everything your dog has learned and ensure a smooth transition back into home life.  

You’ll also receive a folder with resources to take home, including training tips and recommendations, plus a $50 coupon for group training classes, so the learning (and bonding!) can continue!

The support doesn’t stop there, though. We know that questions arise as you and your dog continue training together. Our team is always here to provide guidance, whether you need a refresher session, additional resources, or just reassurance that you’re on the right track.
