Inside the JM Pet Resort's 14-Day Board & Train Experience

Bringing a dog into your life is an exciting and rewarding experience, but it also comes with its fair share of challenges— especially when it comes to training. Maybe your new puppy has boundless energy and little impulse control, or perhaps your adolescent dog has developed some frustrating new habits like counter-surfing, door-darting, or pulling on the leash with the strength of an entire sled dog team. Whatever the case, establishing good behaviors early on is key to building a well-mannered, happy companion. And if you need a little support along the way—we've got you!    

That’s where our 14-Day Board & Train program comes in. Designed as an immersive training experience, this structured two-week program helps dogs refine their skills, develop better habits, and gain confidence, all while having fun in a supportive, engaging environment. This program is designed to treat what we refer to as “nuisance behaviors"—those “not quite serious (yet!), but still a pain-in-the-tail” behaviors that we want to eliminate before they become bigger problems. The 14-Day Board & Train at JM Pet Resort is an excellent option for busy pet parents who want to jumpstart their dog’s training or reinforce positive behaviors before small issues turn into bigger challenges.   

Transforming Behavior in Just 14 Days

Unlike quick-fix approaches that rely on punishment-based techniques, our training methods focus on motivational obedience training— positive reinforcement that encourages dogs to make good choices and redirects unwanted behaviors. Training should be enjoyable for both you and your dog, which is why we make learning an engaging and confidence-boosting experience. By fostering a positive learning environment, we help dogs develop essential skills and a mindset that sets them (and you!) up for a 360º of Happy Health®.  

Before your dog’s stay begins, we start with an initial consultation with our Certified Senior Dog Trainer. This helps us determine whether the 14-Day Board & Train program is the right fit for your pup, or what other type of training they may benefit from. Think of it as a mini private lesson at the Resort so we can get to know your pup and where they need support. This consultation ensures your pup is set up for the most success.

Once in the program, your dog will participate in two personalized training sessions with our experienced trainers each day they are with us. These customized training sessions will focus on the essential skills your dog needs support with, such as loose-leash walking, recall, polite greetings, or impulse control, to meet your dog where they are in their training journey. These lessons are reinforced throughout the day, ensuring that training becomes second nature.  

In addition to these structured lessons, we incorporate:  

  • Enrichment activities that stimulate your dog’s mind and keep them engaged
  • Socialization opportunities in our flagship PLAYtrain® Doggie Daycare help dogs learn appropriate play behaviors and build confidence. 
  • Real-world exposure to new environments ensures your pup is comfortable and well-mannered in a variety of situations. 
  • Relaxation and impulse control exercises help your dog settle and remain calm, even in exciting or distracting moments.

Is 14-Day Board & Train Right for Your Dog?

Every dog is different, and training should be designed to meet their individual needs. Our 14-Day Board & Train program is ideal for dogs who need structured guidance, whether they’re just starting out or need additional support refining their manners.   

This program might be the perfect fit if:  

  • You have a puppy or a newly adopted dog who needs help with basic manners and would benefit from the structure our 14-Day Board & Train program provides.

  • You’re a busy (but well-meaning!) pet parent looking for a convenient, effective way to jumpstart training. Training doesn’t have to rest solely on your shoulders. Let us provide some consistency to get your pup started on the right paw!

  • Your dog struggles with impulse control: door-darting when you go to get the mail, excessive barking, jumping on (and nearly knocking over) guests, or pulling on the leash so hard that walks become something you avoid altogether.  

  • You’re dealing with nuisance behaviors like counter-surfing, stealing items (like grabbing socks or shoes because they think everything is a toy!), demand barking or whining, inappropriate digging, ignoring boundaries, or maybe even something we haven’t mentioned here.

  • You’d like to work on crate training your puppy for safety reasons or so they have a place they feel comfortable sleeping at night, but they just can’t seem to get the hang of settling down in their enclosure. 

  • Your pup has already completed basic obedience training and has started to regress in their manners or is ignoring commands when distracted, testing boundaries with you. They don’t need the full-scale behavioral focus of our 30-Day Board and Train, but they may benefit from some additional structure and refinement in their skills.

You’ll have the opportunity to work one-on-one with our trainer here at the Resort to reinforce everything your dog has learned and ensure a smooth transition back into home life.  

We also offer continued support because we know that questions arise as you and your dog continue training together. Our team is always here to provide guidance, whether you need a refresher session, additional resources, or just reassurance that you’re on the right track.
