Dr. Destiny O'Brien joined the JM Pet Vet Clinic veterinary team to partner with our primary care veterinarians while adding her medical and surgical expertise to the group. She graduated from St. George's University of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. After completing a clinical year at Louisiana State University's busy tertiary care facility, she moved back to her hometown on the South Shore to practice medicine.
Dr. O'Brien is a strong advocate for client education as a way to promote better lives for all pets under her care. Dr. O'Brien obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont, with a major in environmental ethics, policy and law, and a minor in wildlife biology. She completed an undergraduate thesis on wildlife rehabilitation, and after graduating, continued to pursue work rehabilitating local wildlife and caring for permanently injured educational species. Prior to JM Pet Vet Clinic, Dr. O’Brien was associate veterinarian at Whitman VCA.
Dr. O'Brien is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP). Dr. O’Brien is a strong advocate for adopting shelter pets and spent 8 years running the Ellen Gifford Cat Shelter.
Dr. O'Brien's household includes three rescued chihuahuas named Cha Cha, Lola and Cricket as well as two rescued cats named Spice and Loki. Her interests outside of veterinary medicine include gardening, traveling and spending time with family.
