That’s right! When JM Pet Resort first opened, we were known as JM K9 Training. Our founder, Jeni, had a mission: to help challenging and misunderstood dogs experience love and trust through expert training. These dogs, often displaying undesirable, sometimes aggressive, behaviors rooted in fear or past trauma, need an approach that works with them rather than against them. Over the years, as JM Pet Resort has grown into what it is today, we’ve kept that spirit of positive motivational training at the core of everything we do.
Today, our 30-Day Board & Train program embodies the same philosophy, using science-based motivational techniques that allow dogs to learn in a positive, pressure-free environment. With over 26 years of successful dog training using these techniques, our certified trainers are well-equipped to work with dogs who have a variety of behavioral issues.
What is 30-Day Board & Train?
Modifying a dog’s behavior is not a quick fix, and training is certainly not a one-size-fits-all practice. Finding the right fit for you and your furry friend is crucial for their success. Whether your dog is a puppy or an adult, we would be happy to work with them, creating an individualized training plan to meet your dog exactly where they’re at.
At JM Pet Resort, each Board & Train program is personalized to meet each dog's needs; whether they’re struggling with manners, fear-based aggression, or need extra help mastering basic commands. Through this program, we’ll help your dog become a well-adjusted, mentally healthy pup. Dogs will come to us and spend 30 days at our facility, where we work with them using scientifically proven, motivation-based techniques to modify their behavior. We aim to build a positive relationship with your dog and desensitize them to triggers that may cause them to misbehave.
Rest assured that your furry friend will have plenty of socialization (as appropriate, always at their pace) and training—loads of exercise and brainwork mean they won’t even have time to miss home! You'll also receive weekly updates while your pup is here through pictures, quick videos, and emails to let you know how your dog is doing.
How Does a 30-Day Board & Train Work?
Our approach is centered on positive reinforcement; motivational techniques that reward desired behaviors, rather than punish undesirable ones. When dogs associate positive experiences with specific behaviors, they are naturally inclined to repeat those behaviors. Over time, we desensitize them to triggers and stressors, helping them adapt to new situations calmly and with confidence.
Your dog will receive two training sessions daily, guided by our expert trainers. During these sessions, we reinforce good behaviors, address specific challenges, and ensure that learning is fun and engaging. Socialization and confidence-building activities are also part of the daily routine, including playtime in our flagship PLAYtrain® Doggie Daycare, as well as adventures in public spaces near the Resort to ensure your pup develops great public manners. This well-rounded experience prepares your dog to navigate both home and public environments with ease.
Our goal is to set each dog up for success while cultivating a trusting, harmonious relationship between the dog and its handler. Unlike some methods that rely on aversive techniques, we are firmly opposed to fear-based training. Instead, our trainers work to form a true connection with your dog, ensuring that the training process is as gentle and respectful as it is effective.
